Backend Engineering Manager

We're looking for a Backend Engineering Manager who enjoys leading people and improving how things are done, while still being close to the code. In this role, you'll support backend engineers in their growth, help improve our development processes, and make sure our tech stack stays up to date. You’ll also bring in the latest AI tools and modern practices to make our work faster and better.

This is a mix of leadership and hands-on work—about 50/50.

What will be your key responsibilities:

Team leadership (50%)

  • Support engineers in their growth through mentoring and regular feedback.
  • Create a team culture based on ownership, responsibility, and collaboration.
  • Identify blockers in development and help remove them.
  • Improve team efficiency through automation, good practices, and smart use of AI tools.

Hands-on technical work (50%)

  • Stay close to the code—review, contribute, and guide.
  • Help maintain a clean, stable, and scalable codebase.
  • Support architectural decisions and drive improvements across the stack.
  • Make sure our systems are reliable and deployable at scale.
  • Try out and adopt new tools and technologies that make sense for us.


What experience should you have:

  • You are an engineer - keep close to the actual engineering work: designing, coding, deploying, monitoring, responding to incidents
  • You and your team receive positive feedback and recognition
  • You're able to balance out priorities, impact in business, people and technical areas
  • You maintain and adjust pool of senior backend engineers talents based on business needs
  • You evaluate individual and team performance with transparent and measurable metrics

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Experience in leading engineering teams as a Tech Lead or Engineering Manager while staying ahead of technology trends and implementing innovations.
  • Proven engineering experience in backend technologies such as Java, Kotlin, Golang, Rust
  • Track record and focus on software development practices based on SRE and DevOps principles.
  • Hands-on experience with development and operation of distributed systems in cloud infrastructure (SaaS). GCP is preferred but not limited to.
  • Up to date with AI-powered development tools and automation strategies.
  • Passion for driving team improvements, optimize workflows, and mentor engineers.
