R&D - Mechanical Engineer - English

Our client is a start-up company in the field of quantum technology based in Ulm. The company uses the latest developments in quantum physics to apply conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to study human metabolism better. The most critical applications for hyperpolarised MRI are advanced cancer diagnostics and investigating the effectiveness of therapies shortly after they have begun. Our client's ultimate objective is to leverage quantum technologies to achieve the "holy grail" of medical imaging - imaging of the metabolism in real-time, enabling early diagnosis and personalized treatment of cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and neurological disorders. The international team includes 50 specialists, product developers and world-leading scientists from ten countries. Due to strong growth, the company is looking for support in the R&D department and is looking for a Mechanical Engineer (m/f/d).

What will be your key responsibilities:

  • Independently managing and executing your own projects.
  • Conceptualizing, designing, and selecting suitable components.
  • Assembling, and testing complex devices and research setups. 
  • Improving and maintaining existing complex setups, which typically include pressurized reaction vessels, automated (micro)fluidic handling, and heating/cooling capabilities. 
  • Coordinating with electronics, software, and researchers to gather specifications and ensure successful interdisciplinary collaboration.

What experience should you have:

  • Several years of hands-on experience in a mechanical engineering environment.
  • Educational background in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. (Master's degree is considered an advantage)
  • Strong understanding of system engineering principles and ability to visualize the whole system.
  • Experience with fluidic handling systems is considered an advantage. 
  • Experience with automation is considered an advantage. 
  • You demonstrate the ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively, managing smaller projects simultaneously in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • You possess a strong sense of motivation, organization, and a passion for delivering results. 
  • You have excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, ensuring the highest quality and reliability in mechanical designs and solutions.
  • You bring industry experience from the following areas: Medical (-device), Pharma, Biotech, Chemicals
