Job search errors

Job search errors

Even though the unemployment rate in the Czech Republic has been below a record 4% for a long time and vacancies in the labor market are constantly increasing, getting a job might not necessarily be a walk in the park. In today's blog, we will focus on mistakes to avoid when looking for a job.

Searching for a job without a plan

If you search for a job by endlessly sending your resume to every company you can find without a goal, you are moving in the wrong direction. Your first step should be to figure out which field you want to pursue and what position you have a specific interest in. From here, you can figure out whether or not it’s currently easy for companies to fill these positions. Ideally, examine the positions at companies where you don’t know anyone more carefully. This can increase your chances of acceptance.

Only one version of CV

Do not use the same version of your CV for every application. Adjust your CV for each position to better match the current situation and the specific position. This will allow you to stand out and increase your chances of the recruiter contacting you as soon as possible.

Outdated LinkedIn profile

Whether you're still employed or you’ve already quit, always keep your LinkedIn profile up to date. This will make the work of the recruiters much easier. They will better understand where you are now and the experiences you have behind you.

Under Preparing for an Interview

Preparing for an interview is one of the most important things to do in the search for a job. You definitely need to know what the company does, what impresses you about the company, and why you are interested in this field (only if you are actually interested in the field).

Arrive at the interview site at least 5 minutes in advance, wear formal or elegant clothes, and always remember the name of the recruiter or interviewer. Few mistakes cause more doubt in the candidate than not remembering the recruiter.

Not thanking the recruiter for their time

After the interview, always call the recruiter or send an email thanking them for their time with you. Even if you don't get this job, you will still make a good impression on the company and perhaps they will even contact you for a different or better position in the future.

Only looking for a job when you need one

It’s never a bad idea to look from time to time to see if a new position has opened up in your dream company. We all know how time-consuming finding a new job can be, but you don't have to worry about that. All you have to do is create a watchog on relevant job portals or get notifications for applications you might be interested in. This way, you will find out in time when a new job appears in the selected company or in your desired field.
