Google Workplace Administrator

A Google Workspace Administrator is responsible for managing and maintaining an organization's Google Workspace environment, with a strong focus on directory services to control and secure user identities and access. They handle user provisioning, enforce security policies, manage integrations with other systems, and provide end-user support.

What will be your key responsibilities:

Responsibilities 


  • Directory Management:
  • User lifecycle management: Create, manage, and delete user accounts through the Google Admin console. 
  • Organizational Units (OUs): Structure the company directory into OUs to apply different policies and settings based on user roles or departments. 
  • Google Groups management: Create and manage Google Groups for email lists, security groups, and shared inboxes. 
  • Directory sync: Implement and manage Google Cloud Directory Sync (GCDS) to synchronize user and group data from an on-premise LDAP or Active Directory with the Google Cloud Directory. 
  • Profile management: Add and update user profile information in the directory, such as job titles and contact information, to facilitate internal communication. 
  • Security and Access Control (Identity and Access Management - IAM):
  • Authentication: Enforce and manage 2-Step Verification (2SV), single sign-on (SSO), and password policies to ensure robust user authentication. 
  • Role-based access control (RBAC): Define and assign administrative roles and privileges using both pre-built and custom roles, following the principle of least privilege. 
  • Data security: Implement Data Loss Prevention (DLP) strategies and manage sharing permissions for Google Drive to protect sensitive information. 
  • Endpoint management: Control security policies, manage app access, and enforce configurations for company-owned and employee-owned mobile and Chrome devices. 
  • Third-party apps: Audit and manage access for third-party marketplace applications to prevent security vulnerabilities. 
  • Service Configuration and Support:
  • Core service administration: Configure settings for Google Workspace services such as Gmail, Google Drive, Calendar, and Meet, for the entire organization or specific OUs. 
  • Monitoring and reporting: Use the Admin console's reporting tools to monitor system usage, user activity, and security risks. 
  • Troubleshooting: Address and resolve end-user issues related to account access, service functionality, and policy enforcement. 
  • Documentation and training: Create documentation for internal processes and provide training to end-users on Google Workspace best practices. 
  • Integrations and Advanced Administration:
  • SSO integration: Configure and manage SSO with third-party Identity Providers like Okta. 
  • API management: Manage Google Workspace APIs to integrate with other enterprise systems and enable programmatic access. 
  • Data migration: Utilize Google's data migration services for onboarding or organizational changes.

What experience should you have:

Technical expertise:

  • Proficiency in the Google Admin Console and management of core Google Workspace services. 
  • Strong understanding of Identity and Access Management (IAM) concepts. 
  • Experience with directory synchronization tools, such as GCDS. 
  • Familiarity with related technologies like LDAP, Active Directory, and scripting languages (e.g., Python or PowerShell). 
  • Problem-solving abilities: Resourceful and analytical skills to diagnose and resolve complex issues. 
  • Communication skills: Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users and collaborate with various internal teams. 
  • Attention to detail: Precision in configuring settings to avoid security breaches and service disruptions. 
  • Certifications (preferred): Associate Google Workspace Administrator or Professional Google Workspace Administrator certifications demonstrate proven expertise.
