Procurement Data Steward – Master Data

We are looking for a detail-oriented Data Steward to ensure the accuracy, consistency, completeness and reliability of procurement master data across our systems. The role ensures that Material Master Data is correctly structured, governed, and maintained to effectively support sourcing, purchasing, P2P execution, and reliable reporting.

The position drives procurement and material data standards, contributes to the development and evolution of the procurement data model, and ensures alignment between master data and business requirements, particularly category strategies and procurement processes. A strong understanding of Material Master Data maintenance and its dependencies on pricing, sourcing, and procurement execution is essential.

The Procurement Data Steward acts as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for procurement and material master data topics, performing root cause analysis of data issues and coordinating sustainable solutions with master data execution teams, IT, and business stakeholders. The role supports data governance, process improvement, and digitalization initiatives, ensuring procurement master data readiness for both current operations and future system and data model developments.


What will be your key responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Quality & Data Governance
    • Guard the quality, integrity, and consistency of procurement and material master data across systems.
    • Define, maintain, and evolve procurement and material data standards, including naming conventions, classifications, mandatory attributes, validation rules, and approval logic.
    • Ensure compliance with data governance principles and agreed master data lifecycle rules (creation, change, deactivation).
  • Material Master Data & Procurement Integration:
    • Ensure Material Master Data is designed and maintained to support sourcing, category strategies, purchasing, pricing mechanisms, and P2P processes.
    • Manage dependencies between material master data and procurement objects (e.g. purchasing views, material grouping, pricing relevance, reporting attributes).
    • Ensure cross process consistency between material, supplier, contract, and procurement data.
  • Data Model & Master Data Operations
    • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the procurement and material data model, including attribute structures and cross object dependencies.
    • Coordinate master data updates and corrections with master data execution teams, ensuring timely and high quality implementation.
    • Perform data validation and consistency checks; identify data gaps, anomalies, and structural weaknesses.
  • Issue Resolution / SPOC Role
    • Act as the SPOC for procurement and material master data issues impacting sourcing, purchasing, or reporting.
    • Perform root cause analysis of recurring data issues (process, governance, system, or user behavior).
    • Coordinate sustainable fixes with IT, master data, procurement, and analytics teams.
  • Process Improvement & Enablement
    • Identify opportunities to improve material and procurement master data processes, reducing manual rework and operational inefficiencies.
    • Support digitalization and automation initiatives related to master data management.
    • Ensure procurement and material master data readiness for reporting and analytics, including spend analysis and performance reporting.
  • Collaboration & Documentation
    • Collaborate closely with Category Managers to align material and procurement master data with category strategies.
    • Support creation and maintenance of data documentation, guidelines, rulebooks, and process descriptions.
    • Contribute to effective cross functional cooperation within procurement, P2P, analytics, IT, and governance teams.

What experience should you have:

  • Proven experience in procurement related data stewardship, master data management, or similar data focused roles.
  • Hands on experience with Material Master Data maintenance and strong understanding of its impact on procurement and P2P processes.
  • Solid understanding of procurement processes (S2C / P2P) and their master data dependencies.
  • Experience with SAP MM; experience with SAP MDG M is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of data governance, data modeling, and data quality management principles.
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to identify data inconsistencies, gaps, and root causes.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across procurement, category management, IT, analytics, and master data teams.
  • Experience working in agile environments (SAFe, Scrum, Kanban).
  • English language proficiency at C1 level; German is an advantage.
