Senior Accountant
What will be your key responsibilities:
WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are seeking a skilled and independent Senior Accountant to join our Finance team in Budapest. The Senior Accountant plays a key role within the Finance department, responsible for maintaining the accuracy and reliability of the company’s financial records and reports. This position requires a thorough knowledge of accounting principles, expertise in accounting software and the ability to analyze and resolve complex financial challenges. The Senior Accountant works closely with other finance team members and various departments to ensure compliance with accounting standards and local regulations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Independently manage full-cycle accounting, ensuring completeness and accuracy of accounting records in line with Hungarian legislation,
- Assist the Chief Accountant in preparing monthly, quarterly and annual financial closings and reports,
- Prepare statutory financial statements for the Hungarian entity according to applicable standards,
- Oversee accounts payable processes, including invoice verification, payment processing, and vendor management,
- Ensure accurate and timely submission of local taxes (VAT, corporate income tax, etc.) in accordance with Hungarian tax laws,
- Support internal and external audits by preparing necessary documentation and schedules,
- Utilize the SAP ERP system for daily accounting operations, journal entries and reporting, while proposing process improvements,
- Maintain an updated fixed asset register, including monthly depreciation calculations,
- Monitor and implement changes in accounting and tax legislation to ensure compliance,
- Perform detailed reconciliations of general ledger accounts to verify financial accuracy,
- Collaborate with external tax advisors on corporate income tax filings and other tax matters,
- Submit required statistical and regulatory reports to Hungarian authorities on time,
- Participate in special projects as assigned, demonstrating strategic problem-solving and project management skills.
What experience should you have:
WHAT YOU NEED TO SHINE IN THIS ROLE
- Education: University degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field,
- Minimum of 5 years of proven experience as a Senior Accountant,
- In-depth knowledge of Hungarian accounting principles (Hungarian GAAP) and tax legislation,
- Practical experience with preparation of statutory financial statements, consolidation packages, and intercompany reconciliations,
- Hands-on experience using SAP FI/CO modules is highly desirable,
- Proven ability to manage accounting tasks independently in a fast-paced environment,
- Detail-oriented, responsible and analytical with a proactive, solution-focused mindset,
- English – excellent communication skills,
- Strong PC skills: advanced MS Excel and experience with accounting software.
